Finding our way Home

An exploration of place, belonging, and the things that bring us back to ourselves.

Bio

Andrea Brand is a contemporary Canadian artist based in Kincardine, Ontario, Canada. She holds a Fine Arts Diploma with Honours from Georgian College, and her work has recently been exhibited with the Society of Canadian Artists.

Informed by extensive backcountry canoe travel and an en plein air practice, Brand explores how landscapes, objects, and people become intertwined with history, cultural narratives, and personal memory.

Working in drawing and painting, she combines charcoal and acrylic paint, using a metallic copper underpainting while allowing traces of what lies beneath to remain visible in the finished work.

Artist Statement

My work explores our relationship with place and the ways we find a sense of belonging in the world. I am drawn to the landscapes we move through, the objects we surround ourselves with, and the everyday moments that connect us to a place and to one another.

Through painting and drawing, I explore how memory, experience, and personal histories shape the way we see and interact with the world. Working with layered surfaces, expressive marks, and the interplay of charcoal and acrylic, I allow traces of earlier stages to remain visible, reflecting the layers of experience that inform how we understand ourselves and our surroundings.

I am interested in the energy of a place, the memories held in ordinary things, and the moments that bring us back to ourselves. Through my work, I hope to create space for recognition and connection, inviting others to consider what home means to them.
